A Personal Message from Lisa

To the Educators Who Lead with Heart

I used to work with an administrator who used to say, "There are no tears in education." This was a phrase that began to come out of her mouth after we returned to in-person learning in the Fall of 2021, and my theory was that she wanted it to catch on - like a tagline.

I suspect her thinking was that if she said it enough, she could get people to buy into, repeat it, and believe it. I wasn't buying it because I had conversations every single day with teachers or instructional coaches who were in different degrees of tears. Every. Single. Day.

They were overwhelmed. They were angry. They were stuck, confused, sad, and questioning what else they could do for work! There was no shortage of tears. There was no shortage of teachers quitting after a day, a few weeks, or a month of teaching. There was no shortage of teachers needing to take on more students to cover when their colleagues were out with illness or had, without warning, quit.

I knew I knew something that held the potential for teachers to reframe their thinking, and my writing and coaching shifted into supporting educators who are running on empty. Through my book, Uplift: Energizing Educators’ Passion & Purpose, and my work with schools, I guide educators in understanding how energy, mindsets, and purpose shape everything we do — in the classroom and beyond.

I know teaching is hard. Like holding-your-bladder-for-seven-straight-hours hard. That’s why I help teachers tap into principles of energy, adopt fresh perspectives, and find humor in the absurdities of our world, to make the work feel lighter. My goal is simple: to help you live from a place of conscious choice, reignite your passion, set healthy boundaries, and start thriving — without the toxic positivity or guilt trips.
